Author Topic: Obama Leaves God Out of Thanksgiving Address  (Read 6299 times)

There are multiple translations you know.
Each can be interpreted in different ways.

Let's say a Monk named David writing a section in the bible made a false story about himself.

(This of course is a hypothetical example.)

Let's add to that and say a Monk named James wrote the same section without adding a false story. You now have two different translations. There is a reason they did that.

The reader can chose which one he wants to believe.

You further added that the bible may be half true or half false. That leads me to believe nothing may be true.

How can I trust something that lies to me all the time?

Thing is, we still have the originals to compare it to, and lots of people who learned to read them.

The original still also came a long long after Jesus was allegedly died, so its not that great of a resource to begin with.

op and extrude are stupid
You are both the kinds of people that make Americans seem stupid, assuming the two of you live in America. Associating religion with the government isn't exactly the smartest thing to do in a country designed specifically so no one feels more special than his neighbor because of wealth, religion, social status, etc. Obama never directly said anything about Christianity, whether it be including it in his address or bashing it--he gave a perfectly fine speech about how Thanksgiving is exactly what the title suggests; giving thanks. I have no problem with people thanking God on Thanksgiving, if they think he is responsible for everything good that's their choice and I respect it. What I don't respect are douchebags like you that force your beliefs on other people and expect nothing to go wrong with your flawed plan. This is 2011, if people don't have faith in a man that supposedly existed over two millenia ago, don't cry about it.

If religion continued to oppress science we would still be living in the dark ages.

If religion continued to oppress science we would still be living in the dark ages.

Precisely. Although I personally believe science rendered religion obsolete some time ago, I have no problem with people taking faith in religion so long as it doesn't deter development of loving humans.

Take the Salem Witch Trials for example.

If it wasn't for science we would still accuse people of being a witch instead of looking for a logical scientific explanation.

Not really, it doesn't give any reason why god is real.
I've explained that. You say my arguments are bad but you keep cycling back to the same stuff.

Thanksgiving- Not religious
Please correct me if I'm wrong about Thanksgivings correspondence to religion, but I'm fairly sure it isn't

You're correct. Thanksgiving isn't related to religion unless you want it to be, in which case don't force it on other people.

ITT religion war

What else is new

If religion continued to oppress science we would still be living in the dark ages.
Dude, quit being tribal.  And yes, that IS tribal.  I don't care if Thanksgiving doesnt have much to do with God.  Which actually it does because the first pilgrims had a fast on that day in honor to the gods and now we use it today to stuff ourselves but seriously.
