Author Topic: Friend's parents acting neglectful to a blatant concussion  (Read 948 times)

About four days ago one of my friends told me she hit her head extremely hard. I did a few field tests and asked some common questions and it became quickly appearant she has a concussion. From what i can tell its minor-moderate, so I told her to wait a few days and if the symptoms continue to visit the ER. As of now the symptoms are not fading, if anything they are increasing.

Both myself and an EMT told her to head to the ER. The problem is, despite blatant symptoms her mom claims nothing is wrong and refuses to take her. From what I heard her mom has a history of acting neglectful.  I know from experience concussions can get pretty nasty if it turns out something is wrong and nothing is done to help.

I really don't know what I can do if her mom refuses to do stuff.

take her yourself

best course of action. It wont matter if your friend's mom hates you for it, you were helping her daughter.

If she refuses to care for her daughter she is not a fit mother

Do you have your license and a car?

If so,

take her yourself

let her mom know she can lose custody of her child for that

Do it yourself.

Concussions have horrible long term effects if not treated properly.  My mom was freaking out for like two weeks after I had one.

Take her yourself, concussions have a bad history of putting people who have them in a coma if they go to sleep.

also, while at the hospital, they will immediately want your relation, so honestly, it's either you get her there and watch over her while being mercilessly pestered, or dropping her at the door and telling her mom what you did, and that she should get there ASAP if she wants to be able to have any control.

Yes I am fully licensed and have a car. The only problem I feel would arise is the E.R. bill for treatment.

let her mom know she can lose custody of her child for that
This.

Report her mother to the police for child neglect/abuse or something.

Report her mother to the police for child neglect/abuse or something.
I even told her I really feel like calling the police for that, because its that ridiculous her mom refuses to get the condition looked at.

Where's the father?
From what I know, at work.
