I still prefer Pokemon that are actually good. Mantine is actually not bad, Hitmonchan has nice type coverage with elemental punches, but Mantine has a nasty 4x weakness to Electric as well as poor ability to fight back. Hitmonchan's defenses cause it to die if you flick it.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I know for a fact that an Ice-type could beat a Fire-type if you play your cards right.
