I've got a great strategy for a grass type(namely that flower-girl one in gen5).
You teach it Teeter dance, and then EV train its speed and spec.attack as priority.
Then, you can almost always use Teeter dance on an opponent, which will confuse them. I've found that in Gen 6, the first attack used by a pokemon that just got confused almost ALWAYS hits themselves.
this gives you time to either-
-use an attack like stun or sleep spore, or other sleep/stun attack to gain another move.
-use a power up attack.
