Doesn't it unbalance the whole starter thing when Blaziken is the only starter Pokémon to get a mega form?

The funny part is, Blaziken is broken in competitive as is. Then they gave him a mega form and didn't change the part that made him broken - his ability - like they did with other mega forms. I know Gamefreak doesn't make changes based around comp, but it's still a laughable coincidence.

but blaze is on every fire type starter (i think, but i really only know up to 3rd gen)

unless if all pokemon with blaze (or torrent) are broken, don't see why he's broken because of his ability

All fire type starter pokemon since Gen 3 have had Blaze as their ability.

However, Generation 5 introduced Hidden Abilities, which are alternate abilities a Pokemon can have depending on certain things.
Most Global Link Promotion Pokemon have their Hidden Ability (1 Torchic was given out through this), and also there is a chance that Hidden Abilities can be passed on through breeding female Pokemon with a Hidden Ability.


Torchic and it's evolutionary line, including Blaziken, have the Hidden Ability of Speed Boost, which raises the Pokemon's speed by 1 stage at the end of each turn of battle.

That would technically mean Blaziken had no useful ability at all in any battle against an individual wild Pokemon, or a trainer with 1 Pokemon.

It would be fairer I suppose in competetive play, but not everyone does that, so it would make the ability relatively unhelpful to casual players.

The English site has updated with the official names for everything revealed yesterday. All of the Mega Evolutions keep their names, with "Mega" used as a prefix. Lucario needs an item called Lucarionite for its Mega Evolution, which along with Blakizenite (which was mistranslated yesterday) is one of the species-specific Mega Stones required for Mega Evolution. Mega Evolution can only be done in battle and Mega Stones are not obtainable through "normal gameplay" according to the new video.

The rabbit Pokemon is known as Bunnelby. Its new ability Cheek Pouch, shared with the Pikachu-clone, lets it eat a berry and not only gain the intended effect but regain some health as well. The Pikachu clone keeps the name Dedenne, and has an Electric-type move called "Nuzzle" that deals damage and paralyzes the opponent. Gogoat's pre-evolved form is called Skiddo and can be ridden just like Gogoat. The Shalour City, Mega Evolution Gym Leader's name is Korrina.

Super Training has been revealed as a new, mini-game-based way to EV train your Pokemon. Games such as one similar to soccer (football for those of you outside the U.S.) and training bags earned by completing Super-Training regimens are known to exist, but there may be others. A new "Effort O Meter" lets you track your Pokemon's EVs and see how many more they can have.

The new video shows Mega Evolution (briefly flashing the DNA-like symbol that is shown in the Japanese logos for X&Y above the evolving Pokemon), showcasing the Shalour City Gym, and officially announcing the Torchic event for North America and Europe.

I wonder if Mega-Evolution Blaziken will keep it's gender differences.

An additional Mega Pokemon was revealed by Masuda at the VGC Opening Ceremony; MegaKangaskhan.

It has an ability called Parental Bond, likely because of its baby being grown up enough to leave the pouch, which allows its attacks to hit twice in one turn.



So does this mean we'll get a Kangaskhan pre-evo? Or will it stay exclusive to the Mega Evolution? What about the theories of Cubone being orphaned Kangaskhans? Is it debunked or just a branch, where a baby Kangaskhan puts on a skull and evolves, like Shellder's mutation when it bites Slowpoke's tail? Only time will tell.

Megaevolutions only take place in battle, right?
Are they supposed to revert back to normal outside of the battle?

If so, that adds another level of weirdness to the Pokemon Universe, if Kangaskhan can Megaevolve and it's baby leaves the pouch, and then after the battle ends, it regresses in size back to what it's like for a regular Kangaskhan.
