I like how the eyes of the baby Kangaskhan look totally different from the original-style Kangaskhan's eyes. It just shows you how much Pokémon's art style has changed.

Sorry, but regarding X and Y's two legendary Pokémon, how the hell do you pronounce those names?

I don't know how the Anime will pronounce it, but I use this;

Yveltal - "Ee - Vel - Toll"
Xerneas - "Zern - Ee - Us (as in Platypus)"

Zer-nee-us
Ee-vell-tal

I'm very impressed by the creativity of x and y's pokemon. In my opinion it's a big step up from b&w.

Sucks that you need a 3ds to play it though

Yeah, it sucks you need a current-gen handheld.
(No offense, but the DS is just outdated.)

Did anyone else watch this? I don't play VGC doubles but I could really appreciate the strategy that goes in to team building. The main match I saw basically had mirror teams, but since you ran with a roster of 6 and had to pick 4, you could create subteams with themes like sand or trick room on the go. Really makes for an entertaining best of 3 but isn't good on simulators' single-game ladder systems.

Though it's a shame Nintendo only bans based on base stat total and allows things like prankster Thundurus-I (banned in OU) to bring that amount of luck in to the game. Like the guy's strategy was just priority swagger and twave the enemies and go for lucky rolls, which was even called the "hallmark of a champion" by the casters. I don't get why they think luck equates to true competition but it is apparently enough for them and the stream spoke for itself with 15k viewers.

Finals should be good tomorrow, but that said it'll probably just be Thundurus-I spamming status.

I was reading the VGC rules and apparently you can only use Pokemon from the Unova Pokedex, that seems kinda odd

Also it looks like the only move banned is Sky Drop, I thought there was a clause about accuracy moves but that must only be in unofficial competitive battling

Breakdown of the games from last night

Match 1: DOUBLE DETECT EVERYTHING
Match 2: Will-O-Miss, amirite? + Confusalyzed 4ever

The VGC finals will be starting shortly

Nintendo has released yet another video, this time showcasing the Mega Evolutions we saw a few days before. This one is a little strange, it's got a different vibe to it (and a different announcer to boot) than the other trailers.

There has also been a small press release about Mega Evolutions, the only new thing being that Mega Mawile has increased Defense and Special Defense stats.

Is it confirmed that mega evos are triggered by the item-holding Pokemon being crit or is that speculation?

I'd take that as a rumor for now

Wow ok. So I decided to try out Smogon Doubles today on http://pokemonshowdown.com , which is a modified version of the VGC ruleset mainly featuring 6v6 instead of 4v4, level 100s instead of level 50s, and no item clause. I always thought doubles was kind of silly and messy but it turns out plays are incredibly exaggerated. Like every decision has more of a tactical imapct than a strategic one, and you get to do two per turn, giving you room to make sick plays. It's a nice change from OU where most games are decided at team preview or on hax.

I saved a replay of the first game I got where my opponent wasn't a moron. Click "Normal" below the screen to slow the turns down, it's a little hectic from a spectator's point of view with so much per turn. It's only just under 4 minutes even by slowing it down a little. I was using a generic team with all kinds of tools and his strategy was to use Tailwind to double his team's speed and use powerful attacks.

Rage Powder is pretty much the best move, and points to whoever realizes why.
