Wow ok. So I decided to try out Smogon Doubles today on
http://pokemonshowdown.com , which is a modified version of the VGC ruleset mainly featuring 6v6 instead of 4v4, level 100s instead of level 50s, and no item clause. I always thought doubles was kind of silly and messy but it turns out plays are incredibly exaggerated. Like every decision has more of a tactical imapct than a strategic one, and you get to do two per turn, giving you room to make sick plays. It's a nice change from OU where most games are decided at team preview or on hax.
I saved a replay of the first game I got where my opponent wasn't a moron. Click "Normal" below the screen to slow the turns down, it's a little hectic from a spectator's point of view with so much per turn. It's only just under 4 minutes even by slowing it down a little. I was using a generic team with all kinds of tools and his strategy was to use Tailwind to double his team's speed and use powerful attacks.
