Author Topic: Pokémon VG Megathread  (Read 859481 times)

Demo versions of X&Y were available to play today at the Pokemon Game Show in Japan, and we've got plenty of images and information. Remember that these are demo versions of the game and may not reflect the final product.

First off, Mega Evolution is triggered by a simple button on the bottom of the battle UI when a Mega Stone is held, as shown here:

It was possible to ride a Skiddo and Rhyhorn in the demo and there was a bit of Pokemon Amie:

Fenniken had the moves Psybeam, Flame Charge, Fire Spin and Tail Whip, which may mean that it does evolve into a Fire/Psychic Pokemon as previously suspected. Helioptile has Tail Whip, Thundershock, Quick Attack & Parabolic Charge. Sylveon has Swift, Quick Attack, Fairy Wind & Tail Whip. Froakie has Water Pulse, Quick Attack, Lick and Round.

The player character runs by default, with the B button being used to walk.

This mysterious footage was also shown near the end, a battle with graphics unlike any expected Pokemon media. More on that as it surfaces.

For those of you who play the TCG, Fairy type will be joining the roster when the X&Y series begin to come out, with the icon being shown in the poster below:

I am also very excited to announce that a trailer for Pokémon: The Origin was shown at the Game Show.

I'd hate to spoil any potential feeling of awe by explaining what it is, so I think I'll let the video do the talking. You don't have to know Japanese to know what's coming, and I couldn't be more excited. It'll appear in Japan on October 2nd, whether or not it will be shown elsewhere or when it'll be translated is unknown.

Yes! I'm loving this trend of new material.

I'm happy to hear that Mega Evolutions will simply be temporary in-battle power-ups. I was getting worried. :p A lot of the "Mega" Pokémon look really neat and though I'm not entirely sold yet, this is a step in the right direction and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the idea.

And Origin. Origin. Yes. Yes. I'm loving the art. Please don't end up being nothing but a special episode. :(

But really, the hype it's getting is proof that the anime still has potential. As much as I love Ash, they should have just let him go and replaced him with a new protagonist/s after season 1 or 2. Protagonists that haven't been 10 for over 10 years (to be fair, he was 11 once but now he's 10 again). Interesting protagonists that develop.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Regulith! <3

Alright guys I need some advice. I've two weeks to assemble a team to battle my buddy with. We came up with some rules to make things interesting; we both need an Eevee or an Eeveelution, and a starter or evolved form of a starter. No legendaries. We can't use items from the bag but we can use held items. The battle will be taking place in Platinum.

I know a little bit about what to expect. He'll probably be using an Umbreon, and he's told me that he has "3 dragon-types, each from a different generation." He also has an affinity for the move Earthquake. His team is apparently "effective against all types."

I'm assuming that having three dragons is a bad move as they take double damage from ice-types. That makes things easier. For that reason I'll probably be using a Lapras (with sheer cold [instant K/O w/ 30% chance of hitting], sing, perish song, and an ice move). Seems like a smart idea.

I've thought about using a Spiritomb (has no weakness), and a Shedinja (immune to everything but it's a real gamble), but can't make up my mind.

Please help me. <3

Assume Dragonite, Salamence, and Garchomp. Conveniently, all are 4x weak to ice, and Ice Shard was in Gen 4. Garchomp is surprisingly physically bulky so if you're going to use a move with as low base power as Ice Shard, make sure you put it on a powerful physical attacker with an ice typing to get the same-type bonus. It would be much more reliable than

Seems like a smart idea.

OHKO moves are never a good idea

Neither is Shedinja with all the potential damaging moves and entry hazards

That seems like a very good assumption. I'll definitely be doing some research on ice-types!

You two have taught me something: don't gamble on chances. Moves like that are unreliable and it's a valuable move that I could be wasting. Even if I did use sing in advance it might not be worth it. Come to think of it Perish Song is useless too. Even if I put the opponent Pokémon to sleep as it can just be swapped out. My bad. :p

aren't OHKO 40%?
I'm pretty sure it's 30%.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. :) I'm already feeling more confident. :iceCream:

most dragon type non-legendaries should take 4x damage from ice, if i were you i'd make a list

also look for other ice types rather than lapras, if he takes garchomp w/ earthquake and has a higher speed than you lapras could be 1-shot, probably not since lapras is super beefy but garchomp has really high attack.

As long as you don't rely on them, chances can be very useful. See turns 12 through 18 of:

The American set of shiny Generation 4 Legendary Pokemon is now starting its distribution wirelessly at GameStop stores. Dialga is first in line, running until September 8th.

Europe and Australia's distributions will start on August 30th.

Also, a little note about X&Y, Pikachu will apparently have its anime cry (that is, saying its name) instead of the standard one. There are several audio samples of the demos that were playable at the Pokemon Game Show in this post on Pokebeach, which were taken by plugging audio cables into the systems to get crystal clear recordings. Crobat and Mewtwo have updated cries as well.

I actually want the anime to cover previous games with their respective protagonists, then when entering the next region, the previous gen. protagonists join with them, and with the next one, the protagonists from the last generation, etc.

Also that realistic Pokémon screeny makes me think there will be a Wii-U Coliseum-style game coming soon.

forget it I'm buying a 3ds

How much do they cost?

How much do they cost?
$170 for 3DS
$200 for 3DS XL

Will other Pokemon have cries that don't sound like noises emulated on a machine?

Still not for Black 1/White 1, right?
