Wait till Pokebank comes out. Unless they take them out fast enough.

There are also those people who claim to have 5/6IV Pokémon in those short messages. You know they are lying when so many people put that on Dittos and then ask for Legendaries. A 5/6 IV Ditto is actually worth it (too bad they are lying) but now that cloning has been discovered those have started to become less valuable.

really the only methods are to carry around an amulet coin and either refight the elite four or go through the battle chateau

For trainers, instead of the above I recommend Restaurant Le Wow's double battle course since you can do 5-7 runs an hour. With good fame in Lumiose to lower the entry cost a bit and an amulet coin for the battles, you make about 130k per run. I did this myself and got slightly under 10m total from just evolving things for my pokedex so I can vouch for its income as well as its exp rates.

A bit of a random bump here.  I'm in rather desperate need of a Ditto from outside the U.S., preferably from outside North America, and I just can't seem to get one.  I made the incredibly stupid mistake of putting a shiny Gyarados on GTS asking for a foreign Ditto, and some little stuff just gave me an American one.  

So, I'm making the following offers to ONE person [Pokemon X and Y only]:

•  Shiny Gyarados in exchange for a Ditto not from the U.S. (Required)
    •  + American Ditto in exchange for any somewhat interesting Pokemon (surprise me)
    •  + X exclusive in exchange for any Y exclusive
    •  + Shiny Carvanha or Sharcreep in exchange for a shiny Polywhirl holding a King's Rock or a shiny Politoed

The first trade is the only one I really need to make, and you can choose any combination of the other three.  The only thing I have out of the above offers is the American Ditto, because I got an extra from that failure of a GTS trade, but I can fairly easily catch all of the rest if we come to an agreement.

Also, I realize you could easily catch any of the shinies I'm offering on your own, but just think of the time and effort you'd save by trading for them with less valuable Pokemon!
