-If the site accepted the code on the back of the freaking system instead of some stupid paper insert.
The site verifies it as the code of a purchased 3DS XL system but won't really give me credit for it in terms of giving me the free game.

Not the system box.
That's what I lost.
I think the reason the serial isn't accepted is because it's also printed on the outside of the box, which could simply be written down by someone wandering the store.
I sent them a support e-mail sort of thing after following instructions they gave about this specific situation.
