The elementary school and middle school I went to, and the highschool I am in right now, you get suspended for fighting back if someone attacks you. You don't get suspended as long as the attacker, but you still get suspended. They expect you to run away and get help, or just get beat up and tell someone later.

Ridiculous nowadays.

It's not that you "picked the wrong place to fight back", of course you are going to fight back in the moment. Waiting to fight back later just seems spontaneous.
