Chicago reports on it's plans this year.
This year we plan to create 5 farms, each in a city-block quadrant. The ruins of buildings there will be demolished and what bio-material there will be salvaged. The crops that will be grown there are potatoes, assorted fruits, and rye. The areas chosen are not festering with radiation, so the crops will hopefully not get irradiated or mutated.
Natural resources have been discovered, as our scouts have mapped a area of land that has one coal mine and one iron mine. Workers have been hired to mine at those area, providing a much needed boost to our frail economy. The salvaged metal we are using currently might not be enough for a growing country.
Chicago Phoenix has absorbed the bordering tribe into it's civilization, giving us knowledge of the surrounding land and of course, more people. We were able to gain possession of the farm they were operation. There was a small battle in where one squad of our soldiers were killed for 14 of theirs, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Scouts have discovered the Ford car plant. While most of the electronic batteries and spark plugs have been fried by EMPs, our mechanics can whip up replacement parts for 10 cars in just a few months. The plant is inhabited by a few squatters and mutated animals. Our soldiers will move there next month, after sufficient preparations have been made.
Construction of a machine factory in a abandoned building in Chicago Downtown has started. This will take about half of a year, and our prized construction crew is working around the clock. Once it is completed, we will be able to machine our own weapons and guns, instead of scavenging them from military installations.
The oil pipeline that has been discovered has been decided to be used for transportation and trade by all known nations. Chicago Phoenix is going to construct the railway for it's portion of the pipeline. The vehicle that is going to be used is one of our re-furbished Ford cars that runs on diesel fuel. The fuel will be produced by the Fischer-Tropsch process. Blueprints for the process have been found in the plant. Diesel fuel with this can be made with anything from dead bodies to crops to coal. It will take a year for our scientists to accumulate the supplies to create a Fischer-Tropsch factory.
Raiders known as 'Pastor Johns' have been giving Chicago Phoenix scout a hard time getting into Oklahoma. They have been killing and murdering our scouts, handicaping our progress to explore what remains of the US. The next time a scout party goes out, they will have a squad of militiamen to escort them.
Alerts have gone up as mutants have been infiltrating the city. Mutated animals and humans have been entering the city at night and preying on civilians who walk at night. More militia have been drafted, raising the amount of troops to 500 people.
