Author Topic: Folklife 2012 and my band  (Read 772 times)

Folklife is basically a huge hippie fest. There's musical performances, dancing, probably some pot, and lots of chill people all just hangin' out in Seattle Center.

Site is here: http://www.nwfolklife.org/

The thing is though, for 2012, my band applied to play! I play drums for a band called the Jalepanos (pronounce ja-lay-pa-noz) and we had just enough time to lay down a demo song, and submit the CD with our application. I'll let you guys know when we find out if we're playing or not.

This is a big deal for us, as we've only ever played at Relay For Life before, and that was basically a different band as it was 7 people. Now it's 3. So it would basically be our first big performance as musical performances are in front of roughly 7,000 attendees.

On the flip side, if we don't get chosen to play on the one day we're available as a band, we can always busk around the festival. For those of you who don't know what busking is, it's where you sit by the side of a sidewalk or walkway or something and play music for donations. It's an encouraged thing at the festival, and we actually do it all the time around our high school (we play for all the ladies ;D).

Discuss! Are any of you in a band?

Looks like the fest won't exist lol!

I would probably be in a band as a screamo-guy-thing or like an electric guitarist.

Oh, and to give you an idea of what kinda music we play, we covered this song for our demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecp-nD5aXIs and we really enjoy playing Red Hot Chili Peppers and that kinda funk rock and general rock.

Haha jam bands ughh.

We're not a jam band, but I have serious respect for bands that can pull that stuff off. Grateful Dead anybody?

This can only end well. Good luck Trifacks, have fun.

I'm a folk musician and I support this thread.

List of songs we know how to play so far:

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynard
Orange Blossoms - JJ Grey and Mofro
Sound of Sunshine - Michael Franti & Spearhead
    Snow (Hey-Oh) - Chili's
    Dani California - Chili's
    Tribute - Tenacious D

LEARNING: Relief by Bury Tomorrow, and Change by Between the Buried and Me (it's a cover of Blind Melon)

And we're writing original stuff right now.

Here's the demo we recorded/mixed rather last minute for the Folklife application. We covered JJ Grey's Orange Blossoms.
