Author Topic: Admin/admin pass for saving a build.  (Read 1272 times)

Well, if you built a huge build that took a few months, and some starfish 9 year old comes and steals it and says he took credit, you would probably change your mind about this.
I really wouldn't give a stuff. He knows he didn't build it. I know he didn't build it. It's just a build.

1. Make a gallery topic about it.
2. Add hidden messages in it, that only you know of.
3. Even if he "steals" it, everybody would know cause he wouldn't be able to reproduce it.

Also, why is everyone obsessed with "protecting" their builds? If you build something cool, why not share it so that everybody can have fun with it?

There are many reasons for that we don't need this and shouldn't have it. And secondly, it is technically impossible to prevent the client from saving (you can prevent event and ownership saving, but not brick saving).

  • Server sends client the brick data within range so that the client can properly render and account for collisions.
  • Client has the actual data for the bricks client-sided.
  • Client simply dumps the data it already received from the server into a file using a specific format, and eventually asks the server for event data and ownership data in case that is needed. The brick data is fetched entirely from the client-sided memory, and no server-sided actions are executed to fetch it.

It doesn't matter how you would or how you think you would go about making saving limited to Admins; it will never happen.

In addition to the quote pecon98 posted, Badspot has said on multiple occasions that saving will not be restricted.
This is how it is and how it always will be.

How?
The client requests ownership and event data from the server.

But I don't think they're going to load it with ownership anyways.
And the events are likely nothing spectacular.

Locked, we don't need to play this game every time someone makes a thread about this - point them to an old one.
