A moderate deposit of lead is found in an Avalonian hill. It is extracted and cast into bullets (Bullet is term for objects used as ammunition for slings), and these bullets are distributed among Avalonian towns and settlements so as to render them slightly better prepared for an invasion, the civilian population can better resist enemy advancements. An invasion is not expected, but the prepared prosper.
Avalonian ruler Haran II retires to private life, leaving His Eldest son, Hamond, to claim the throne. The new king is backed by the kingdom's council, and none remain to contest the throne but the former ruler's youngest son, who has been best friend to his brother and has not resented the eldest's appointment as emperor. A grand feast is being held in Avalonia, foreign dignitaries welcome to stay and witness Hamond's coronation.
The Generalisimo of the Avalonian armies, Jesuren, has published An Excursion Into Military Success, and it has been hailed as a great military volume. He is keeping the tradition of recording his military expertise before retiring, although his retirement is still a ways away. Several copies are being kept in Avalonia's Grand Library.
