The president can veto once, but it can be override by a two-thirds supermajority. He can also do a pocket veto if it reaches him several days before Congress adjourns; in which case the bill would die.

And here's a fun fact, FDR performed more vetoes than any US president: 635. Only 9 were overridden, though!
