Author Topic: My mother is a crazy person  (Read 1622 times)

After about two years of keeping my stuffty mac downstairs, my mom finally agreed to let me move my computer up to my room. Despite having wireless internet, I had the router wired to it. So I've had it up here for about two weeks but yesterday after attempting to download a large file and cancelling it, our internet decides to be an starfish and repeatedly crash and come back, on infinite loop. So now I have about 5-15 minutes of internet before it forgets up again, for a good 15-30 minutes. My mom learns about the internet crashing and tries to fix it all day. Frustrated, we give up before the new year's celebration.

Today the internet is still stuff. I thought my mom would call at&t customer support, but she didn't. She comes upstairs and says "i think the internet isn't working because it's not hooked up to the computer." I explain that the internet was still working after not being connected to anything for two weeks up until yesterday. "The internet was using the printer as a server and today the printer went kaput." This sounds stupid to me, although I'm not very knowing of computers, I can't conjure up an explanation. She claimed her laptop being wired to it instead has been keeping our internet well, but nothing has changed, it is still not working for my sister and I.
Also, my 3DS refuses to connect, even when a foot away from the router.

TL;DR I ated a babby, but pirates came.

Tell her you need a new router. Maybe it doesn't support as many wireless connections as you have now?

It has been for a while.
We've always had 2 or more computers running on it at once, and 3 for the past year.

I've heard pretty pathetic stuff about geeksquad, especially the prices.

I'm talking about wireless connections. You're not including the 3DS and such. How many devices are using the wireless from the router? You made your computer a wireless connection.

Oh, right.
Until 2 weeks ago this computer was always wired, so it's always been 2 computers, and since march the 3DS, along with the Wii for about two years.
The wii's internet is working.

You definitely need a new router; the same thing happened to my home's internet connection so my dad bought a new router and I don't get anymore timeouts.

Thinking about it.
What's a good internet provider?

I got a new router yesterday after using one for 8 years.

Internet started stuffting so fast it couldn't keep up with it's self.

That's how fast it is now :)

Um.

Printer=/=server?

How can a printer be used as a server?  Are you sure your mom isn't pulling stuff out of her ass?

I am positive she is pulling stuff out of her ass, isn't that what I wrote?
The worst part is, she is getting a computer science degree..

A wireless printer works off of the network via the router and a server basically manages access to the resources in the network. So your printer is not a server...

A server is a computer or computer program that manages access to a centralized resource or service in a network. I highly doubt that your printer has any of the capabilities that your computer has or a solely dedicated server.
