Author Topic: Substitute teachers bug me about my keyboard positioning.  (Read 3440 times)

So, I'm the fastest typer in the class. Really because I play PC games a lot (Quake 3, CS, TF2, etc.)
So, we had a subsitute teacher for the day. In computer class, we're doing All The Right Type Plus 3 (which, everyone i've talked to says it's not helping) I was typing, and I didn't have my hands on home row. I never do, and I've never really typed like that. The teacher comes up to me and says "You should put your fingers on home row, you'll type faster and make less mistakes" (I get around 70-90 WPM and about an average of 1 or 2 errors a paragraph) I just ignored it, because I was already into a lesson, and I didn't want to mess up. So, she comes back later and says that I'll have a harder time typing essays and what not when I'm older. I've typed hundreds of essays and poems and stories, and all my teachers are fine with my hand placement, and they're happy that I type like I do. In a job, if my boss would watch my placement and question me about it and disapprove of my placement, I'd quit. Of course, that's not really ever going to happen.
Your thoughts on this?

Continue to ignore her, no need to make a big deal over a substitute (slang for in training, obviously) teacher who is just following their textbook training

You would quit over hand placement being critiqued? Lul.

I've never used the home row for typing and I never will.

No, she's like 60 or 70.
My fingers (FPS games) are WASD and Mouse. I don't use number keys (In Valve Games it's Q switch or scroll wheel)

By the way, what the forget is this "home row" anyway?
I'm 17 and I have never heard that phrase before

Not if it was a few times, but if it was constantly happening, like every week.

I guess she doesn't know that Home Row typing isn't even mandatory anymore.

asdf jkl;

I don't really know.
I think it's
"asdfghjkl;'"
Hand left on "asdfg" and Hand Right on "hjkl;'"

I just put my hands where they're needed, if I tried to stick them to asdf and jkl; I'd probably end up tying my fingers together

Same here.

A few teachers commented on my finger placement because I was typing "fast" they asked if I used the home keys and I told them I tried but it doesn't help, they were hilariously shocked.

I told them that, and they we're like "You'll do better if you use home row" or one even said "don't back talk to me"

Tell them to go make you a sandwich It's funny how they try to control how you type.
