My father was in the 101st US Army Engineers up until '08, and my grandfather served (I believe as an engineer, also) in Korea. Great, honorable men.
Memorial day isn't just about remembering those who died in the line of battle, which thankfully people like Sailor understand that. For many the war never ended upon returning home, either confined to wheelchairs and other equipment for the rest of their lives or haunted with PTSD, sometime ending with Self Delete. Those men and women, US citizens, people, served not for the banks or the greedy politicians, but for the country whose flag let them choose. Choose what to say, believe, and most of all, do. They didn't take advantage of that opportunity to get out and have fun, they chose it to protect those who didn't want the job. And it goes beyond Vets, too. The men and women of law enforcement, fire departments and hospital workers/paramedics should get their well-earned respect. Bottom line, whether they agree with the politics or not, our US heroes sacrifice their lives day-in and day-out to make ours better. We wouldn't be who we are today without them.
