Author Topic: Rogue Survivor - ALPHA 8 BITCHES  (Read 4312 times)

...Because I'm too lazy to re-write an OP, here's mine from the old 2010 topic, with stuff added:

Rogue Survivor. A rogue-like free roam zombie apocalypse where you aren't an action hero. Obviously zombie = survive. Though this isn't Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil, you can't run around beating the stuff out of random zombies for stuffs and giggles. You will die that way. You need to eat and sleep on this game, neglect those basic needs and there will be penalties. If you don't sleep you will randomly pass out and end up getting killed on the streets. Don't eat and you will starve. You aren't alone though, there are civilians that you can recruit equal to your leadership skill. There are also hostile bikers armed with rudimentary melee weapons and hardened leather jackets, the National Guard, cops and C.H.A.R. employees in their offices, also hostile. You obviously have the zombies to deal with too. Most can shamble at your speed or lower, and are fairly hard to kill without a decent weapon. As far as the friendly civilians go, the A.I is an enemy of the player. The civilian's A.I directs them to pick up interesting objects (Guns, ammo, wood, etc.) which also means stuff you leave behind. They will randomly roam picking up guns and other useful objects to them. They also start to push objects around if they get too hungry, which is usually useless unless they happen to hit a huge stash of yours somewhere. Though this can be bad, recruiting a bunch of civilians and training them makes an effective army of gun-toting super zombie hunters. A guide is in-game and tells you all you need to know about the game.

-----------------------------------------

After awhile once the gangsters and the bikers start attacking and the military starts making supply drops you will find a ton of supplies on the streets and probably won't run out of food or medkits. Most of the buildings will be empty and the only things walking around on the street are zombies you haven't killed yet.

Zombies aren't as dull as they are in the movies and other games. The early zombies can't do much other than shamble and eat people, but as time goes on things get worse. Some zombies move at walking speed and maybe even faster. Some zombies attract others. Some zombies can climb. Some can push things. There's also rats, which can move past any obstacle except closed doors.

This game is one of my personal favorite roguelikes, up there with Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm. If you like roguelikes and zombies, I highly recommend this. Alpha 7 is a pretty damn big update, featuring corpses and gamemodes, among other things.

Ooh, sounds fun. I'll give it a spin.

The perspective is so confusing.

The wiki is odd, you go to the wiki page, click on the mods link, you wait a few seconds, go through linkbucks, waiting a little bit longer, and then are taken to the mods page on the wiki, which has very little information on one mod.

Yeah, Don't use the Wiki, It's very outdated. If you would like to to know something just ask and someone, including me, Will try to help you.

Aww, it's still in alpha? I wished it would be released properly by now.

I think it might be in Alpha for a good amount of time.

The wiki is pretty useless except for the page on zombies, even then it's still useless.

I hope something like this gets made, but skyrim/fallout style.

It was just be a generic zombie rpg.

This looks cool, I would like a bit better design, but the interface and just general game mechanics are both good in my opinion.

Ugg, would anyone know how to get this working under Wine for Ubuntu?

Oh god, this game hates me.

I was walking around town during a rainy day as a Private Shane Patterson, national guard. I had been disconnected from my squad while I was out getting boards to build us a safe place to hide. I found the corpse of one of my squadmates, Private Lewis Steward. His body was badly damaged. I took his ammo and moved on. Later, I found 4 biker corpses in another building. As I was walking by, 3 of them rose and attacked me when I was right in the middle. As I ran, the last one rose and did the same. I managed to get away, though, and I'm walking around still.

I bashed open a door to a char office as a cop, then got killed via shotgun.
I reincarnated as a char guard in the same building, all the noise made some zombies come and break the rest of the doors.
My guard friend died when a few zombies attacked him, I avenged his death.
A zombie horde came, and I also heard roaring engines.
My dead friend came back to life, and then ate me.

I have a stack and a half of both canned food and groceries. For now, I'm good. The redundant shelf walls means that anything trying to break into the inner room will wake me up and give me plenty of time to either pack up my stuff and run or get my gun I will eventually have loaded and ready to fight.
