Get both dropped pickaxes, then begin mining until you get an additional 10 or so funds. Then go back to base, buy a Steve, and then send him (with a pickaxe) along with the sword Steve to the mine.

ohohoho

okay get 4 steves, 2 picks, and 2 swords and send it all to the mine. Make sure to order the two swordsman to stand right under the trapdoor off to the side to immediately take out any any attackers dropping down
