Author Topic: Parents are convinced that BL mods have given my computer viruses (Read 1872 times)

So my dad came home today while I was working on a building project on BL on our family desktop, and he storms over to me angrily, shouting that "I am in big trouble". Apparently he got a call from a computer repair shop where we sent my gaming PC to get repaired, and he says that they claim that add-ons for Blockland have "given my computer destructive viruses and malware that has caused permanent damage to my computer".

Naturally I do not believe this at all and I call bullstuff. I had heard somewhere before that since Blockland Addons are stored in ZIP files that viruses would be literally trapped inside them and unable to do anything just by downloading them.

What should I do? My dad is pissed at me now and is trying to get rid of Blockland from our desktop computer because he thinks it is going to destroy it.

you probably DID download a virus somewhere along the line, but it chose to manifest in your addons

Tell him he's wrong and prove it with a better scanner.

Unless he means the hard drive could be rendered useless by a special kind of virus, however you can still access files so that rules it out.
I'd like to speak to this repairman, what's his name?

Anyway, scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode. Do a hijackthis log.

the front desk lady was a total dumbass too, she kept rambling on about how apple 'makes products 100% better than microsoft" and how her son has this super old mac from like 1998 and that he loves it to death and plays all his games on it.

plus she kept saying how macs are worth their price because they have 'highly advanced and secret hardware that microsoft doesnt have'.

she pulled up this dumbass slogan of 'once you go mac, you dont go back'

i really wanted to slap her across the face, because she clearly knew nothing about what she was talking about
