Why Am I Posting This?
I do alot of vce eventing and make quaint little servers with new concept games that I've made, but I don't know if I'll have time to even attempt this one, so I figured I'd pour out my ideas on here so that they can be used by some people that like them and have the time to bring them to life.
So this idea probably won't involve any new 3D models, or scripts. Just server concept.
The Basic Idea
You start very far back in time, perhaps as a caveman for example. You help your tribe, complete quests, like for a caveman that would be killing animals for food or gathering plants, either you can choose from. Towards the end of your caveman experience, depending on how well you do you'll get assigned points, maybe if you die you'll be forced into the next age, but that's inevitable. At some point you'll enter the age of bronze, skipping ahead a bit. As a more advanced person you'll be doing more advanced tasks, maybe delivering goods, protecting your small village from a neighboring enemy. Continue this pattern, getting a little more complex as each age passes. Eventually you'll have to fix some circuits as a mechanic on a huge ocean liner which you aren't sure if it's the Titanic or not. Perhaps it ends in the future, when the world is destroyed, or when you run out of ideas =P your points will be tallied, and added to a hi-score board.
That's Nice, But What Will I Be Doing!?
Of course any concept is trash if your player is going to be doing the same repetitive grinding or crappy copy and paste system. Sure that's easier to make, but that's just not appealing.
The whole idea of this is being creative with your quest-line. Originally it could start out kind of like a medieval rpg, being that you'd have to hunt and gather, collect resources to make armors. But then that age would be finished. The next age could hold a gradually different game-play style, maybe you could even go from Roman Wars to Steam-Punk Detective. In this sense, it's an evolving puzzle, where the more you progress, the more difficult and unique your challenges become.
Okay... So How Will It Work?
I've thought of a few ways to pack all of this into one server. Basically when your character makes it to the end of your age, you'd be teleported far away from those bricks so that you wouldn't have any client lag. Though if a single age is very large (quest and content wise) you could also split that age up into several pieces. You could create a free roam area, but close off sections to players to save brick-count. The eventing would vary depending on what you want the quests to be really, here are a few simple examples:
Age - Example
Caveman - Collecting resources/killing threats and gaining exp.
Bronze Age - Collecting/converting/transferring resources/killing threats and gaining exp.
Roman War - Dialog for where to fight/repairing weaponry/Piloting a vehicle into battle.
Noble Age - Advanced dialog to solve a murder mystery/cleverly executed relays and sounds/dangers and ways out
Engine Age - Repair broken parts of machines/solving mini puzzles
Slave Age - Escaping from your oppressive owners/dramatic dialog/mapped escape routes
Modern Age - Dialog to get through a school day/troubleshooting computer problems
Future Age - Battling with lasers/complex machinery repairs?
You're Aware That You're Insane... Right?
Yup. I know the whole idea is basically a mesh of what already exists, but I think putting it together is what really makes it unique. Plus you could get all kinds of people to play, I mean, who wouldn't go through all those ages just to make it to the future? Lasers are awesome!
Kay~ I'm Going To Post a Reply After Reading This Whole Thing.
I'd really appreciate that ^.^
