SHAZBOT
stuff i love that word, i miss starsiege tribes although i never really played it for CTF and stuff, only ModX and TribesRPG lol
i will get this game just to spam shazbot.

it takes a few hours of gameplay to unlock all the bonuses for a class with the xp boost, a bit longer without the xp boost.

it's not going to restrict competitive play - if bonuses restricted comp play, then how are there world of tanks, battlefield, and cowaduty competitive leagues?
vengeance wasn't a particular bad game on its own, but it was stuff compared to tribes 2. the levels were tiny, the game was slower, half the content was missing, it used a battlefield style vehicle spawn system, etc.

but the grappling hook, buckler, and urban levels were loving awesome, too bad the rest of the game was so blegh.
it still creates an imbalance between players that isn't skill-based! it's turned tribes into an rpg and frankly it's bullstuff
and that's because people are dumbstuffs and don't know how to do proper comp play, so they turn to imbalanced games in order to do it

The game isn't really imbalanced. The majority of the upgrades are very minor, and the unlockable classes aren't really that amazing. I've only seen a few people move outside the defaults, anyway.
As for the Xp system, I still see no issue there. It rewards people who play well, without completely ignoring those who just weren't given a fair chance.

if you have trouble running a ue3 game, you need to get a new computer, seriously.

I can run UT3 on high at 60 fps on Deck and this game runs at 30 on the lowest setting, which happens to be "normal." There's also 2 settings. This game is poorly optimized, no question about it.

Well I don't blame it. It IS a closed beta after all. It's not even in stable condition to be an open one.

I got a key but I haven't tried it yet been meaning to

it makes the game not based on skill, and instead based on numbers. if you want a number based game play an mmo. when i fire up a game with tribes in the name, i expect to find a game based only on skill and not how much you've poopsocked

holy forget you haven't even played the game
also maps are too flat.
Are you kidding?  They're all very good about skiing.  Are you just saying "OLD IS BETTER BECAUSE IT'S OLD" again?

this game is fun

graphics style reminds me of UT3, and blood eagles kick ass btw

Skiing. That's exactly the problem. There's no incentive to jet because of the focus on skiing, not to mention the stupidly slow energy recharge that is much slower than the other Tribes games. There are a metric forgetton of low hills, but a negligible amount of high hills.

Also that second comment is just stupid.

What would high hills do other than ruin skiing?  There is a large amount of jetting already in game, mostly for dropping onto those small hills for speed.  Use your creativity.

Every single complaint about any fps you have references a classic fps like half life or quake.

well he's got a point - ascend has almost no real "mountains" or large hills like tribes 2 had. they were great for building up enormous amounts of speed, or ramping up high into the air. most of the levels are really flat with small hills.

it's painfully obvious that you've never played the game, because the stat bonuses are tiny and the game is still 90% skill 10% pure luck, like it was in tribes 2.

hnngh look at all those stat bonuses and random dice rolls, this game is ruined FOREVER.

it runs on the same engine as ut3.

this is where jets come into play.  Use them to propel yourself high, then drop into a bank.

Also holy stuff why doesn't anyone good play on Blood Eagle?

it's not just the speed bonuses that mountains provide, though. they dramatically effect the flow of the map, and how players move around.

the hills in that video are larger than the mountains on katabatic. i use them to force the tank to loose speed or risk damage.
