it's not just the speed bonuses that mountains provide, though. they dramatically effect the flow of the map, and how players move around.

the hills in that video are larger than the mountains on katabatic. i use them to force the tank to loose speed or risk damage.
I guess they do affect gameplay in the fact that it's much easier to turn around and all of that, but don't they also add much more difficulty to the game?

Also, what is everyone's name on this? Mine is Marcem.

not really, no. anyone could build up enormous speed after playing on the map for a few minutes, but real pros would be zipping across the map, hitting the apex of every mountain a precise angle to deflect off in a certain direction for even more speed on their flag run.

That's what I mean.  People would be going faster and faster, more so than now.

well he's got a point - ascend has almost no real "mountains" or large hills like tribes 2 had. they were great for building up enormous amounts of speed, or ramping up high into the air. most of the levels are really flat with small hills.
it's painfully obvious that you've never played the game, because the stat bonuses are tiny and the game is still 90% skill 10% pure luck, like it was in tribes 2.

hnngh look at all those stat bonuses and random dice rolls, this game is ruined FOREVER.

it runs on the same engine as ut3.
holy forget you haven't even played the gameAre you kidding?  They're all very good about skiing.  Are you just saying "OLD IS BETTER BECAUSE IT'S OLD" again?

okay
i do not care how much or little of an advantage it is. i do not care if it's a bonus of 1% or 100%. i don't care how much or little of an impact it has on gameplay. it makes it so the people with more hours are mechanically better instead of skillfully better, and that is never a good thing in a game like tribes
and yes, i have played the game. the bonuses do significantly impact how well you do with a class. i was doing bad as soldier, got a few upgrades in spinfusor and speed tree, suddenly i'm pulling a 2 kdr and getting more caps than i do on my un-upgraded pathfinder

I'm Ector. Maybe I should add a list to the OP. Does the friend system work?

Maybe that's because you got better as soldier and you aren't good at pathfinder.  Small stat upgrades are not going to make you aim better or anything.

Also holy stuff why doesn't anyone good play on Blood Eagle?
In my experience, most of the stuffty players are on Diamond Sword.

Also, holy stuff it's so satisfying to hit someone mid-air and blow them out of the loving sky while playing as a soldier.

they will:
make you do more damage against armor
give you more ammo
make you faster
give you more grenades
give you bigger magazines
and i meant i was better at soldier at capping flags and gaining speed. that is the pathfinder's specialty, and i can do it better with the medium class. hell, i'll often return to base with half of the health bar still left

Tribes: Ascend:

The game where I hopelessly try to hit something while getting gangraped by flying spacemen.
And it's so fun.

It's the game I suck ass at but still like

the best part for me was the map with a desert, the only four buildings being the spawns and the spire-bases
I'd swipe the flag and ski/jettison away, only to find out some redstuff took mine
SHAZBOOOOOT

pathfinder will go like a bat out of hell once you learn how to ski properly. the only things that can keep up are jumpers in rough terrain or a disc-jumping soldier.
