I don't think Requiem for a Dream is very melancholic. Actually, most of Clint Mansell's productions are more epic than anything else.

Some possible contenders by him, though, could be:
Death is the Road to Awe
Together we will Live Forever

Both of which are part of The Fountain's soundtrack.
