Tsar Bomba is/was the world's largest bomb, and had a power of 50 loving megatons (originally planned to be 100).  Only one working example of the bomb was built and detonated 4500m above the ground, and boy.

The mushroom cloud went up to about 67 loving kilometers, the impact force went around the Earth 3 times.  The light flash could be seen from a mile.  The people 270 km away from the site not only saw the explosion through sunglasses, they felt heat.  Here's the destruction tally from a small village 400km away: wooden houses kaput, stone houses had their roofs caved in, and their windows and doors blasted off. The detonation site was a plain flatland, no cliffs, no stones, no hills, no nothing.

why the forget would they even use it

Holy stuff. That thing is hote.

Didn't they say they weren't going to use it anymore because it's way too powerful?

thats one big bomb
would be a shame if something were to put it on fire

Russia also developed thermobaric vacuum weapons that desolate the entire area into a moon landscape without a crater.

Quote from: Russian deputy armed forces chief of staff Alexander Rushkin
"all that is alive merely evaporates."

This explosive detonates without radioactive fallout so it's very useful when wiping out entire armadas and then sending in your own forces.

Countries do stuff like this because they can and want to... Discourage... Enemy attacks. When worse comes to worst, I doubt you want one of those blowing up on the east coast.

trust me, you don't want that one even mentioned, let alone dropped anywhere near you
why the forget would they even use it
testing purposes

Just to freak the Americans out a little the Soviet Union said that they tested the same weapon on the dark side of the moon.

There was a video of a test of the bomb on Youtube.

Here's a video about it, from some British documentary.

The original design would have been 100Mt.
