Author Topic: Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs - Frictional Games Megathread  (Read 9045 times)

I was previously very disappointed with this game, but after beating it, wow, I'm very impressed.

The story was great, and that ending had me on the verge of tears. It was also pretty damn scary. The game was much darker than The Dark Descent, I can see why they gave us infinite oil. Several parts of the game were pitch black.

Spoilers:
The man on the phone is the other, insane half of Oswald that was created when he split the Orb he retrieved from Mexico in two. He journeyed to Mexico in search of the Orb for a source of unlimited power for his processing plant. When he split the Orb, the Orb granted visions upon him of the future 20th century, and WWI specifically. He saw what would happen to his children, and he was powerless to stop it. In an insane range, he killed his two children so that they wouldn't have to endure the future in store for them.

The engineer is Oswald's other half, disguised to trick the Professor who came to inspect his establishment because of Government suspicion. In the end of the game, Oswald finds the central control (the pyramid) and finally turns off the machine. His other half, who is controlling the entirety of the machine, impales his heart out of anger of being defeated. This all happens in the final hours of New Years Eve. As the machine turns off, the world enters the new century.

You can get the story here: (Spoilers, obviously)

This is the one I watched. No commentary, no 'oh my god how did you miss that go back NO THAT WAY GOD DAMN IT' moments save for a single occurrence, and plenty of time to read notes and whatnot.

I don't think I've ever tried watching an LP without commentary. I'll give it a shot, thanks.

The bumps in this thread is glorious.

Just beat it yesterday after 8 hours of solid exploration and waiting. It had a great immersive story and setting, really great game.

i bought the game for like $15 from some site but didn't read the "DRM-free" print because i'm a handicap and bought it because cheaper price and refunded it cause it wasn't on steam

i'm contemplating buying it this weekend if i have the money though

What the hell is wrong with you...

a lot is wrong when you're desperate for a deal.  i'm gonna end up buying it for $19.99 on steam anyway probs, i didn't have the money to buy it before.

No like, why would you pay extra for a game with DRM? You do realize you can add third-party software to your steam library, right?

i would have to download the game and all updates from the site, which is some site i don't have any other business with so it's literally like using origin except it's not automatic at all and i have no other reason to use their site (no other games that i own with them).  i would rather refund and risk having my account cancelled with that distributor than have to deal with redownloading the entire game every time.

it's just inconvenient and a first world problem really.  it's not paying extra, the game is $19.99 regularly, it was discounted on gameolithic or w/e they're called with a coupon code.

EDIT:  also tbh i'm not even sure what's this company's deal really.  i honestly have a suspicion that they may not be legit, like they're just giving me "drm-free" but it could be just a packaged pirate copy for all i know.  i tried contacting their support and after 24 hours i just emailed them with "i'm going to just charge a refund through paypal and you can cancel my account we'll both walk away like nothing happened".
