Author Topic: Alternate "Point and Click" method of building.  (Read 988 times)

okay so on the way home i had this idea about a point and click method of control instead of positioning with the numpad and planting with enter. to elaborate, the current scheme:

move left: 4
move right: 6
move forward: 8
move back: 2
move up: +
move down: - (or is it 5 i forget but you get the point)
move up a plate: pretty sure it's 7 or 9
move down a plate: pretty sure it's 1 or 3
rotate: those corner buttons
place brick: click

what the scheme could be:

move mouse: move ghost brick where you're pointing
r/t: rotate brick
click: plant brick

of course the planting range would be optional

to me it just seems a lot more complicated than it could be, but probably for certain reasons. I think it'd be nice as an option for people who want a more simplified scheme that actually simulates how a blockhead would build. in my mind i imagine the character pulling bricks from his backpack and throwing it where he wanted on the build.

vote in the pole now pls.

i could make this clientsidedly stuffily
keybind to toggle it, with a loop to keep making it click?

I would personally continue to use the numpad controls, but having the option to switch would be pretty cool.

I think this is a good idea, at first nearly everyone (I think so) struggles a bit with those complicated brick move keys, but if you got used to it you can build really fast with the default controls. Also it's complicated to get used to new controls if you used numpad ones for ages. BTW, the mouse is used for looking/activating and such.
move mouse: move ghost brick where you're pointing
r/t: rotate brick
click: plant brick
This would be more like the Roblox controls (!!!!!) where you can move and scale (WTF?) the bricks with mouse. But yea, if someone scripts this well, it can be cool (only if its toggleable) :D  :cookie:

so you're saying it'd be better for newer members than for those who already are used to the control?

that's pretty much what i was going for.

you know what, i'm bored - making this stuffily

oh my god i love you

Yea that's what I meant. It's actually hard to get used to some changed controls, but if you're completely new to Blockland it's easy to get used to that because you don't have to change your mind (I don't find a good way to describe this D;) to use different controls.

it'll have the blue emitter constantly playing though, not sure how to figure out where the mouse is pointing in the world

also, this would probably make it easier to build while eating a sandwich

Srsly? Cool  :cookie:

mousefire(1); with the brick tool?

mousefire(1); with the brick tool?
not necessarily, because clicking would also plant the brick and looking would move the ghost

this would imply that a brick would be planted everywhere you look, haha

hmm
anybody know if there's a value to see if the brick cart is out?
and rotating it might be a problem, due to it being realigned when replaced (i think)

Blockland is not all about building, you also click to activate things and fire weapons

there's no other way to do this other than just keep mousefire(1); ing?
