The PS3 didn't completely use software emulation for backwards compatibility so by removing the hardware they could lower manufacturing costs.

I bought the ps3 the month it was released and I cant play PS2 games :c

Apparently Sony actually created complete software emulation of PS2 games on the PS3 but never released the ability to use it. With some console hacks you are able to access it though.

yeah i noticed you could reserve memory on your PS3 for a sort of pseudo-memory card for PS2

There are two models of PS3. Slim and fat.


Fats are backwards compatible.

They're slowly releasing PS2 games on the PSN, so maybe that'll lead to something later?

PS2 could play PS1 games.

i have to play both of them on an emulator (I backed up the disks and made them into .iso's so i can play them because i no longer have a PS2)
