They were exploring the cosmos when suddenly the clockworks pulled their ship down and blew it up. I'm guessing that their faces are concealed by shadows (Like the black mage in FF) and you can only see their eyes.

I'm fairly certain that through the game there are datalogs from Alpha Squad which document them beginning to doubt that their species are truly alive.
Like sentient robots slowly realising that they aren't actually alive

But i don't have enough Energy, i have nothing more to use Energy on for a while, so i now have to dedicate my play time towards that lockbox!
