Author Topic: KONY 2012: The movement to end Joseph Kony  (Read 25265 times)

A message about Joseph Kony and Kony 2012 movement:

Joseph Kony is no longer in Uganda, he's been gone since 2006

His "army" has eroded down to about 300 and is no longer any sort of a threat

Calling for any sort of military intervention against this man and his "army" will result in all of those "invisible children" being slaughtered, you realize this right?

The charity behind this largely astroturfed "movement" spends a vast majority of it's budget on staff salaries and media, only about 30% goes to supporting the SPLA and Uganda.

The SPLA and Uganda's government regularly commit human rights violations that dwarf those of the LRA, these are the organizations that benefit from donations to the invisible children charity.

And finally, I like "quotation marks."

If people really want to make a difference in the world why aren't they complaining about Iraq and Afghanistan, where our very own military has accidentally killed or maimed as many as 132,000 civilians? How about the 8,000 deaths that have occurred so far in Syria, where militant Islamic terrorist groups are fighting rogue elements of the Syrian military and NATO/UN forces are pumping weapons and funding? What about the fact that our government is being pushed by Israel to invade Iran on the absolutely unsubstantiated pretense that Iran is about to go nuclear?
There are much better things to be getting worked up about than a militia in Uganda that's leaderless and barely functioning.

no one has known where he has been since 2006. he may even have been dead.

this entire movement is a sham for this group to make money.

ugh
we should just round up everyone living in africa and shoot them into the sun
the only news i ever hear about that hellhole is some famine or another warlord or more piracy

Aww, his army isn't a threat?

Well, forget. That's boring.

I'm still going to hang up posters and stuff. Sounds like fun to me.

We can't even take care of our own country, and now we're going on some wild goose chase, attempting to stop this guy?

also, fun fact, the day they're gonna do there 'blackout' where they cover the city in posters is also the exact day of the exact month that Riddlers birthday took place

wow, way to follow up captain blue's intelligent post with driveling conservative bullstuff and a conspiracy theory.

I keep coming back to this topic and I keep seeing misinformed people. I wish people would try to understand for themselves what the movement's actual goals are and what they're spending money on. Cause all I see is the same reprocessed information spewing from both sides, for and against.

No, because Captain Blue and bisjac bring up that the LRA is no longer an active, growing military group. That means action isn't even nessicary. Most of those kids are probably grown by now.

I never said I was for the movement. However, Kony 2012 is an actual thing with actual goals. Whether this will accomplish anything is up for debate (according to Captain Blue and bisjac, it won't). However, misinformation is still spread.

EDIT: Also, if you believe that this movement is full of crap, but you still want to see something done over in Africa, specifically the Democratic Republic of the Congo, I suggest you look into Falling Whistles. Again, question everything, but this is an organization I feel is doing much more.
