Author Topic: I need reasons why you shouldn't be able to buy power.  (Read 2421 times)

uh

isnt that bannable

edit: forget you new page. the last post on the first page is what im talking about

I think advertising might be against the rules, I'm not sure though.

Donating allows the owners to upgrade and spread. If they're making money, they'll spend more time on the game making an overall better outcome.

I host a server ranked 19 last month out of 10000 on minestatus.net. It's the 2nd largest prison server on minecraft. We pull in almost 2k a month via donations and without those donations we'd be a stuff server.

Some of those children happen to be the rare combination of mentally ill and rich, so they pay the $300.

There's nothing in Maplestory that you can't buy with the ingame currency aside from cosmetic items

Dual Blade and Evan classes require you buy their mastery books in order to fully spend your skill points and make the most out of those characters. However I think they were meant to be the only 'premium' classes in MapleStory anyways so..

Power as far as this concept is going is merely a gimmick in order for them to aquire your $ $ $

How many players attend?

We already bought Minecraft, we don't want to buy your stuffty OP 'classes'.

But in free to play games, understandable.

I also like the part where they call it a "Donation".
More like a donation to buy the kid's next bag of potato chips.
Running a server costs money.

shielding wards
miracle cubes
gachapon tickets (to get rare items)
pets, and pet equips that add attack
scroll percentage boosters
shops
scissors of karma (to trade rare items)
2x exp/drop
item locks
those hourglasses that extend item times (can be used on certain non CS items)
mastery books for DB/Evan
teleport rocks
inventory slots
aura rings (CS item. gives stats)
second pendant slot
wedding coupons (rings give stats)
vicious hammer (more slots on an item = more upgrades = more power)
access to the MTS (buying hacked weapons) <--- this one makes you a friend but it's still buying power

all of these give some sort of advantage that cannot be obtained A) easily or B) at all in regular non-paid play

the list goes on, and on, and on.

Do you need to buy any of them with NX in order to do well in the game?
No, you don't buy any sort of real power through NX, and a lot of the stuff you listed can either be bought with Mesos or result in an item which can be found for sale in the Free Market, paying for inconsequential power is perfectly okay because they don't make you into an obscenely overpowered badass who nobody else can touch because they didn't shell out $100 or spend an entire week doing surveys.

All skillbooks can be bought and sold in the free market, they aren't paying for anything that only they can get in that instance

are we even playing the same game? you can buy a 608 att ST for $20 or less

maplestory is broken. browse its forums once in a while.

But does that impact the free playerbase in any way at all? Does it affect you if someone paid real money to get a powerful item?
No, it's inconsequential power which does nothing to alter the gameplay experience of the free user, it's also power which pays for the server costs and the staff wages of the company which let you play the game for free unless you choose otherwise.

Paying for power is only a problem when it is utterly game breaking, when it shifts the balance of everything in favour of just one person and when it is detrimental to the gameplay experience of the free users who make up a vast portion of the playerbase.

If maplestory was a competitive game my stance would be completely different because in competitive games which rely on skill to offer a bailout card to anyone who doesn't want to get better under their own skill and patience as long as they pay money is when paying for power becomes unfair and game breaking

>Non corrupted player plays game.
>Non corrupted player gets killed by corrupted players who paid.
>Happens constantly.
>Non corrupted player gets sick of it and buys power.
>Becomes corrupt and does the same thing to other players.
>cycle repeats.

You are wrong. I have an Evan and a Dual Blade. You have to purchase their mastery books from level 30 ~ 70 with NX.
