Author Topic: THEY DIED! THEY ALL DIED! (goldfish)  (Read 4476 times)

You must be a master at caring for goldfish. :/
not really
i just fed them like, 3 times a week.

You probably touched the water.

Is the water at the proper temperature?

Did you remember to de-chlorinate the water?
Yes. But they I don't think we had much to do with it, because they started dying before we put them in the water.
I think it'll be because of the temperature differences between your tank water and the fish's water from the pet store. If you put them straight into the water the chances are that they will die. You have to float the fish in their plastic bags with their water on the tank water so that they adjust slowly.
That's exactly what we did. They began to die before we released them into the big tank, though.

Apparently they might not have been properly fed when they were in the market.

You're suppose to let them swim around inside the plastic bags for a few minutes inside the fish tank.

You just murdered your fish into shock.

Fish have unusually low lifespans. Wit the exception of some such as koi.

Complete nonsense. Common fish like goldfish can live up to 10 years.

The fish probably died of:
- Poor quality water, you need to make sure there is good bacteria in the water which can take a week with treating it. Some places have chlorine in the water which kills it. 100% clean fresh water is bad.

- Shock; it should take 20 minutes to put the fish in the tank, by first letting the bags float in the aquarium, then by letting some of the aquarium water into the bags 10 minutes in. Fish can also die from a rough car trip-- good pet stores will put medicine into the bags to help calm them after purchase.

- Illness; the fish may have come from an infected tank, which may now have infected your tank. As a buyer its kind of your fault for not making sure.

- Temperature & water type; make sure the fish were fresh water. Some fish need salt water. Some die in warm water, some die in cold water. You can not mix and match.

I watched my fishes devour each other
God it was hillarious

It seems as if the pet store wasn't at fault here. People that don't know basic fish care tend to  blame the problems on the store itself. I've been to petco, my fish have lasted months if not years.

Mmm depends. I know that Walmart has malpractice; especially with their underwater snails.

So they shoved all of the same type of fish into one bag? Then they could of died of suffocation.

Yes, SUFFOCATION.

Incase you didn't know, fish don't extract oxygen directly from the water molecules. They take in oxygen DISSOLVED in the water. So when there's 20 fish in a single bag, there isn't much oxygen to go around, or diffuse into the water from the air (Assuming the bag is tied).

i also had a suckerfish
named mr.seaweed
biggest thing i have ever seen.
from 2 and a half inches to almost 12 inches
time flies when your a suckerfish

I had this fish named Dorris who was pretty cool. He was one of those fish that have long cloth like fin thingys that were cool. Also he was red.

Then we had this loving goldfish from a fair that stuff everywhere and were totally disgusting and didn't live nearly as long.

I cried when that fish died.

^That's what he looked like, but red.

Reminds me of the time I bought four pigeons and they all flew into a wall and died the next day. I was all "CALL THE EXORCIST!"

I have cared for pigeons before and this was a one time event.
