The best way to do this is use a bot.

Make a bot with the model of a ski lift have a small collision box on top of the model.  Have mounts in the ski bench.  The bench will have no collision, but the bot will be able to walk along the line.  Have events that mount you in it without walking onto the top of the wire to mount the bot.
