There were always horrible servers. You'll find the best possible experience by joining small servers (1-3 players), socializing with them, and making new friends.

The argument 'host your own' is only going to hold true for experienced builders. If I hosted a server with my building skill, it would be rancid in the eyes of everyone else.

I think the issue is that there are more stupid servers than there were previously since it's easier to host now, so it makes it seem like there are fewer good ones (well i can't actually deny there aren't as many good ones, but the flood of bad ones makes it seem worse).


more interesting ideas and servers have been popping up recently (ie Mafia Madness, Minecraft), so i hope that'll continue

Good servers are rare.
If you want something specific you mostly will have to make it yourself rather then waiting on someone to have the same idea and not being as lazy as you are.

Lately i am building a terrain build for a TDM of some sort, which i actually quite enjoy.

The fact that this game allows you to host your own game and do practically everything in it is the magic of a good server.
Sometimes other people host good servers, sometimes they host stuff servers.

The freedom of "practically everyone can host" is also a good cause for stuff servers.
There are so many people hosting small servers for their pleasure (can't blame them) and are too lazy to make something super of it.
The freedom of this game can be too much for some of us at certain moments. ;)

I used to host a TDM back in 2010 similar to Gravity Cat's before he started hosting his gov v rebs.

it was on paradise slate and there was 2 teams.

Green/marines and Brown/Vietcong
it was quite successful as it got 32 players at one time. i should host it again

My servers are generally good if I'm actually hosting a public server. I generally don't though.

I can't really host, my upload speeds are only 2mbps so most people lag.

The other day I looked at the servers listed on the website and I seriously could not find one single server that didn't look like crap, wasn't a handicapped rp, wasn't passworded, or wasn't spammed.

Only about 2 unpassed servs had cool builds in them and they were both empty.  It really is pathetic how low quality our servers are.
