Author Topic: 'Second Life"-like Re-sizable Ghost Brick Mod Idea  (Read 1394 times)

*Essential Information Needed: Does generating a new brick in-game load a new datablock?

I've had this idea for years: You place a special ghost brick that you can re-size on each axis, then when you place it a brick of that exact size is generated. This would reduce lag a lot and make building faster.

Once we takle this then we could do a re-sizable ramp ghost brick, then our lives would be complete, there would be A LOT more variety in builds, and Blockland would have more appeal to more potential players.

I don't understand how this will "put A LOT more variety into builds?"

There I edited it to say that there would be a lot more variety if the re-sizable ramp ghost bricks were implemented.

interesting idea...
but what if multiple players make multipl bricks at once or many times?
and correct me if Im wrong but each time a new rick is created or something like that it would have be loaded to the server causing issues such as players having t rejoin etc.

also this sounds petty similar to robloxs brick gen.
the brick system in blockland is static meaning that (correct me if Im wrong again) hat we trade off brick flexibility for quantity.

loving kindle taks too long to type on.

I like ramps like how we have them now, just count how many you need before you plant them.

I don't see what's wrong with people placing at the same time. I don't think you have to load anything if you create a mod that generates not a brick but something almost like a brick.

But you have to download a new brickpack if there isn't an angle you want, and most angles don't even exist in any brickpacks.

I only need the 4 default angles we have. You can't disobey the brickgrid anyways.

it loads a datablock to the server or so ive heard so there is the possibility of running out of brickspace because servers cn only handle 4096datablocks before overloading.

What do you mean, the mod would re-size in increments, not in floating point values.

You just disregarded my counterargument and repeated what you said already.

modify button much?
anyway I did restate what I said because there is a large possibility of lag and-
actually Im arguing on my kindle at midnight.

Meh people said we couldnt have shadows and shaders and look where we are now.
Itll proably happen sooner or later.
My only question is why use the torque engine.
WHY.

Well too late, too much effort has been pored into torque to make all the updates and mods.

Stretching bricks is incredibly inefficient.

TBM stretches bricks; Roblox stretches bricks.

What do they both have in common? They are both laggy as stuff.

Who said anything about stretching blocks. Reread.
