What is World of Tanks?
World of tanks is a game made by Wargaming.net, and is entirely free to play. In World of Tanks you drive your tank around, killing enemies to earn credits and EXP to buy new modules (engine, turret, gun, radio, suspension (tracks)) for your tank, and for other tanks. The game is set during the WWII period, and with no real campaign.
Game-modes.
World of Tanks has very few game modes, clan wars and a random battle. You can platoon with up to two other friends.
Tank Types
There's a variety of tanks for you to try out in WoT, and each all play differently.
- Light tanks: Light tanks are fast, agile tanks for scouting and support. Often times scout for Tank Destroyers and Self Propelled Guns (SPGS)
- Medium Tanks: Medium tanks are very important, as they are very good for support, assault, and scouting.
- Heavy Tanks: Heavy tanks are heavily armored, deadly tanks. Heavy tanks are mainly focused on assault, and often require support from medium tanks in order to be efficient.
- SPGs (Self Propelled Guns): This is a tank type for the patient people, as SPGs are incredibly deadly tanks with large guns. SPGs are generally innacurate and are very powerful, capable of one shot killing some heavy tanks. Playing an SPG efficiently will require lots of hiding.
- Tank Destroyers: Tank destroyers are deadly like SPGs, and have large guns and most of the time, low armor. Playing a Tank Destroyer requires lots of hiding, and when you do hide, you get a camo boost.
Tiers
- 1: This is the first tier you start out as, your tanks are free, and ammo is free.
- 2: The next tier, tanks are very cheap, and will earn you more money and EXP than the previous tier.
- 3: The third tier, which has more expensive tanks, but earn more money and EXP than tier 2
- 4: Fourth tier, which has tanks that cost upwards of 100,000 credits, an amount not easily earned. These tanks have very good profit.
- 5: This tier is much more expensive than tier 4, and require lots of grinding in order to earn the EXP for them, but they have good rewards for patience
- 6: Much more expensive than tiers 4 and 5, and these are very profitable tanks, with more tanks in this tier being heavy tanks than the previous tier.
- 7: This tier is much more expensive like the previous tier, and earns you more.
- 8: This tier is where the SPG tech tree stops, and one of the SPGs of this tier has a gun of 240 mm.
- 9: The tier before tier 10, with the Tank Destroyer tech tree ending here.
- 10: The last tier, with the tanks being the most expensive to research and purchase, and lots of grinding is nessicary to reach these tanks. Turning a profit from these tanks is almost impossible without purchasing gold for gold shells.
Current Version
The current version for WoT is 7.2, and introduces a second tank destroyer tech tree for america, which features tank destroyers with turrets.
