Terraria - How do you defeat Skeletron?

Is there a good way to defeat Skeletron?
Here is my inventory: Blue Phaseblade, Massive Nightmare Pickaxe, Silver Axe, Wooden Hammer, Forceful Ball O' Hurt, Magic Mirror, 29 Normal Health Potions, 57 Bombs, Demonic Minishark, 599 dirt, 445 Torches, 1416 Musket Balls, Nimble Musket, 29 Platforms, 250 Stone, 279 Wood, 181 Glowsticks, 3 Gold Coins, 49 Silver Coins, and 22 Copper Coins.

Equipment: Top Hat, Silver Helmet, Copper Chainmail, Iron Greaves, Spectre Boots, Arcane Cloud in a Bottle, Band of Regeneration, Angry Depth Meter, and Warding Gold Watch.

get meteorite bullets and have a lot of ammo

fire at skeletron a bunch, then attack with your sword for some good damage
instead of using bombs, use grenades and throw them directly at him

also i guess it would be a good idea to lay out a long line of platforms and wahtnot for easy movement

What armor should I make?
I have a demolitionist and I always thought grenades were useless.
Do you mean my Blue Phaseblade as my sword?
Platforms? I got spectre boots and I can use them to fly around. I got a cloud in a bottle 2 ya know. Oh and I have 1500 ammo now.
I guess I'll find one of my meteors that crashed and maybe I can defeat EoW for a third time to make Shadow Armor.

EDIT: AGH! I JUST FOUND THE METEOR CRASH SITE NEXT TO THE CORRUPTION.

How much defense do I need to defeat Skeletron? 20? How much? What items would I need really,?

theres not really a "required" defense/whatever. You can go kill skeletron with 0 defense.

but it's suggestive to kill it with like, 23 defense.

and upgrade yo' minishark.

My minishark is demonic, I don't have the money to reforge.
I also have the max health and about 180 mana.

A normal minishark is plenty to kill him.

Edit: Get better armor by killing the giant eye boss/Eatter

Here is something that Terraria Online Wiki says:

The Old Man is an NPC found outside the Dungeon. He "guards" the entrance, and the Dungeon cannot be fully explored until he is gone

"until he is gone". Does that mean actually gone? Or do you need to still fight Skeletron? I read this in TerrariaOnline Wiki
