Really just making this thread to see your guys opinions on the subject.

For those of you who dont know what Permadeath is, Permadeath is a feature in games where you can choose to play in a "Hardcore" fashion. Basically, if you die, your character is deleted and you cannot play any longer. An example would be Hardcore mode in Minecraft.

Personally, I love permadeath. It adds a new excitement to a game that you dont have otherwise. Every fight, every battle, every risky move could end your game. Obviously, I dont like Permadeath in all games. Sometimes I just want to play like normal.

Anyways, your guys thoughts?

It's okay I guess, that's what makes roguelikes so fun.

I personally don't like playing permadeath because when I die, I usually lose all the progress I have made in the game. I don't mind it being a feature, but I don't think I would like a game where you are forced to play permadeath.

Fallout with permadeath mode would be kickass

Just delete your save when you die ;)

Permadeath is so cool because it adds extra value to a bunch of things. Do you stay content with the +3 strength armor you picked up, or do you risk entering harder dungeons for better armor so that you KNOW you can beat the next boss? Games like RotMG, Minecraft and Torchlight have always got me on that aspect. For example, I was playing Minecraft and stumbled upon a huge crevasse filled with all sorts of gems. I spent the next week carefully mining everything out, creating safety nets out of water and so forth. I had almost finished mining the thing when I stumbled into a room filled with lava. On the other side was a small cache of diamond. It was my lucky day! I start hastily building a bridge to mine it, forgetting to put up the normal safety constraints I usually add. I'm sure you can guess what happened next. I was so disheartened that all that time spent carefully navigating the world had gone to waste that I decided to quit playing Minecraft, resolving that if I ever did pick it up, I would play on the normal modes. It wasn't even a week before I attempted my next hardcore mode.

I wish more games would add it (especially games like Fallout). I also wish that games like Minecraft would add it to the multiplayer. Imagine setting up a Minecraft server with a bunch of friends and playing hardcore mode. It'd be kinda like lord of the flies or the hunger games or whatever.

Never tried it, too scary.

permadeath on loz, mario, tf2, half-life, gta, and gmod would be a nightmare :C

i get so scrad evrytim

Extrude is too scared to play LSD or look at SCPs lol what a fradey cat

This is a stuffty poll.

People's opinions on permadeath can highly differ based on the genre. You can't couple every single kind of game genre and ask a person if they like permadeath, it's just unfair.

I personally like permadeath in MMOs but permadeath in an FPS game would be loving stupid.

Partly because GTA IV is such a painfully looooooong game. I looked after I completed the main story and found I'd logged around 80 hours.

I don't like permadeath because I'm a weak pansy. I don't like the idea of having come so far in a game only to die from, say, a misstep, and having to start all over again. It's like building a house of cards.

Only games I seen with permadeath are HnH and hardcore mode in Diablo 2 and I loved both. Farming for chipped gems to trade for lowbie gear and taking things slow was a real treat. And the PVP was forgetin intense.

VVVVVV on one life mode.

Yeah
