Just because the old Bluzone is gone doesn't mean the new one is worse.
From my time in the old Bluzone (which wasn't a very large amount, but still enough to formulate a verdict), I have to say that it is much better than the new one.
The new Bluzone revolves a lot more around events because of the way the build was designed.
Does the condensed style allow for more roleplaying? Yes.
But,
Does it take away from the physically larger aspects of a Zombie Apocalypse? Yes.
Because of the small area-to-area design, it's very hard to take in the scale and use it for things you'd do every day in this situation (scavenging, warding off zombies, etc.). Areas are designed to be smaller are have significant differences so the player doesn't scrabble around as much, which takes away from the panic and confusion of a Zombie Apocalypse.
The Survivor Base is the biggest culprit of this design. It's almost always completely safe from any sort of zombies, so from a roleplay standpoint you have no reason to leave it. It's got alcohol and theoretical boxes of food. It's even got guns and ammo.
Point being, the two big issues with the new Bluzone's event-like style are: events being used as focus points in the meta (thread has a list of events, large fancy posts used to show them off) and small areas providing little to passively as well as give the player safety from the zombies.
Might as well relabel it as an Isolation / Post Apocalypse Science Fiction / HellMOO Roleplay instead and remove the zombies.
