I may be a bit late, but I think the whole Mutalid and eight people dead thing was fair. Maybe eight is a bit much - I don't know the whole story, but the way I see it it's natural selection. Too many people try to make their character some badass. They want their character to come off as the basic American action hero and it's unrealistic. It's so unrealistic that they throw themselves into a hole too deep that they can't get out of.
They make it seem like they can get out of that hole, but no matter how hard they try they fall on their ass harder each time. It just doesn't work out - and then when things don't work out for them you know what they want to do? They want to void it. And that shouldn't even be an option.
This is the way things are justified. People can learn from their experience or not - it's up to them on whether or not they want to role-play effectively or not.
