when everybody left there ended up with 8 people. That's when the lag stopped. So we played a couple 8 person games.

depends on how many people and their locations. The map is supposed to scale to a kilometer or something. It could take up to maybe 5 hours with 24 people, but I'm not sure since I haven't played with 24 people yet :/

It'd take roughly the same amount of time I think.
With a large group, people will kill each other off and the remaining people are more than likely far away from each other.
With a small group, people may start off far away while looking for stuff.
