OS for OS....

Id recommend BlockOS
As one of the BOS devs I have to state that I disagree with this statement.

Quote
"Wine is slow because it is an emulator"

Wine's not that kind of emulator

When users think of emulators, they think of programs like Dosbox or zsnes. These applications run as virtual machines and are slow, having to emulate each processor instruction. Wine does not do any CPU emulation - hence the name "Wine Is Not an Emulator."

"Wine does not do any CPU emulation"
so?

thats not even the definition of what emulation is.

wine is exactly what emulation is. makes no difference how its done.

wine is def an emulator. define emulator;

em·u·late  (my-lt)
tr.v. em·u·lat·ed, em·u·lat·ing, em·u·lates
1. To strive to equal or excel, especially through imitation: an older pupil whose accomplishments and style I emulated.
2. To compete with successfully; approach or attain equality with.
3. Computer Science To imitate the function of (another system), as by modifications to hardware or software that allow the imitating system to accept the same data, execute the same programs, and achieve the same results as the imitated system.
adj. Obsolete (-lt)
Ambitious; emulous.
[Latin aemulr, aemult-, from aemulus, emulous; see emulous.]
emu·lative adj.
emu·lative·ly adv.
emu·lator n.

That is definitively what WINE does.

Why you guys are going to a non-computer dictionary to look up computer terms, I don't know.

that sounds ridiculous and unofficial but ok

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/E/emulation.html
hmmm looks the same

haha in fact it even specifically cites using windows OS/apps on a mac as emulation.
you hurt your own cause, mac lover.

Wine works right with the CPU to execute Windows programs. The virtual machines it listed are emulators as they're running in a language run by the OS such as C++ to execute the Windows programs, which adds an extra, unnecessary step.

You're looking in the wrong dictionary.

oh so the dozen main stream dictionarys are all wrong but the one you want is the good one right?

derp. mac users try so hard lol

this IS emulation, even by definition.

the process can be done 100 different ways, and its still emulation.

I didn't even know WINE ran on Mac.

The problem is you don't understand why they're not calling it an emulator.

well you certainly didnt describe i to me. at least in a way that cites its not emulation.
and ALL dictionarys seem to agree with me.

i guess i need to visit the genius bar for a proper opinion lol

Explained:

Emulated:
Mr OS or Mr programming engine, execute this code, and do this
OS: I'll do this, this, and this, and move this to here
OS: Mr CPU, do this and tell me the result so I can tell Mr Program(ming engine)
Mr Program: Thanks Mr OS, I'll show this.

WINE:
Mr CPU, do this and tell me the result
Mr OS, please display this.

but that is not the definition of what emulation is....
by any dictionary...
even net slang hasnt changed that over the years

so you mac/linux lovers tell yourselves these lies so many times you believe it?

stuff i even checked the wiki, the most modern use of the word and edited by people in the know.
still says the same things

Emulated:
Mr OS or Mr programming engine, execute this code, and do this
OS: I'll do this, this, and this, and move this to here
OS: Mr CPU, do this and tell me the result so I can tell Mr Program(ming engine)

in fact im gonna have to quote it as i still have to find WHERE you think you got that info.
because so far its only coming from you.

I'll simplify it more.

WINE uses less overhead.

If you can't get that, you're hopeless.

ok if thats true then awesome.
but its still emulation lol...

mac and linux users would LOVE the tech world to believe that what they do every day isnt emulating. because it would take away the shame of using inferior hardware and/or software. and wasting money.

besides, no overhead would imply that there isnt a middleman program needed to help run 3rd party software. which there IS that middleman program. your emulating ADDS overhead lol. efficient or not. it ADDs the overhead you claim isnt existent.
