Thanks dawg. Mind doing a a black and white edit of that shot? It doesn't seem color adds much to the shot, and if color doesn't add anything the color should be black and white. I could be wrong, but I am curious.

Unless the purpose was to detail every bit of the miniature, you're breaking the active space rule in a bad way. I would've cropped the sword and had open space on the left side of the white guy. Also probably would've composed it a bit differently but the active space violation is the most frustrating thing to me w/ that picture.

The intent is to show draw the most focus on Exia, centering him, showing that his perspective is the primary.  Blank space is fine on a portrait if the overall intent of the display is meant to show depth, not a closed environment.  I understand where you're coming from but I disagree and assume you're going off of a biased viewpoint commonly presented in art/photography classes.  Photo's have different purposes and present different concepts through the amount of space or lack thereof not "filled."

It's also a professional display of how evenly distributed the light in the image is.  A lightbox isn't very easy to setup, and usually requires much more, but less immediate skill to adapt to.

It just seems like the sword is being swung towards the white guy, in which chase I feel like the empty space of the photo should be on the left side.

Here's the shot slightly re-composed with the guy on the left blurred. I still think the guy on the right is still the focus of the shot and the shot seems more dynamic to me, especially since the guy on the right has color on the one on the left doesn't. (sorry for the bits of blue on the inside of the of the guy on the left and the general stufftiness, I didn't spend enough time to do it correctly).



It does definitely showcase your lighting set-up though, so that's good.

Notice how the focus lies on Karas (the black guy), and that his shoulder is in the middle of the photo.  Yes, I understand that the angle in which mine is produced isn't the same, but the fact of the matter is that Exia is the center of attention here, and therefore by centering him the most, and display his wide stance with a LOT of depth, but not showing much of the other character, shows more action/emphasis on the suit.

The photo itself was actually cropped and was similar to how your example posted was, and I still disagree with using it.

If you ever have that set-up again for something else, if it pleases you, humor me and take another shot with the composition and framing that I suggested, I just want to see what it looks like w/ the actual models.
