Author Topic: A Quick Grammar Guide  (Read 1318 times)

I see that many people have trouble typing on these forums, so I'll explain how to type correctly.

Commas:

Comma: To divide a sentence without using a period. A quick way to remember it is by calling it a, "Mini Period".
Correct:
"The man was very drunk, so he threw up."

Also Correct:
"The man was very drunk and he threw up."

Incorrect:
"The man was drunk he threw up."

Also, use commas before quoting things.
Example: We saw the movie, "The Notebook".

Grammar national socialist megathread.

There's gonna be a lot of people correcting other people in this thread.

your last example is wrong lol - there shouldn't be a comma before "The Notebook"

This is the internet, where several people can see how we type and will usually judge us on it.

As long as it's good grammar, I don't see the problem.

I like the part where you missed the point of his post

Semicolons.  I love em.

They are used to separate two independent clauses of the same idea into one sentence.

Example: No one was seriously hurt in the accident; one man suffered a broken finger.

If you only use a comma instead of a semicolon, it is considered a comma splice.

Bad example: No one was seriously hurt in the accident, one man suffered a broken finger.

It is also correct to use a comma and a coordinating conjunction such as: No one was seriously hurt in the accident, but one man suffered a broken finger.

I would laugh for hours if this got stickied, whether as a joke or not.

I don't think you should be giving grammar lessons considering yours is fractured itself
e.g.:
Comma: To divide a sentence without using a period. A quick way to remember it is by calling it a, "Mini Period".
commas are used in place of conjunction-words, i.e. and; but
also, you don't need to put a comma if the phrase is fluid
example: the reviewers called the movie "brash and unfunny; a terrible remnant of what once was a great movie."

I can already tell this will not end well.

to add on:
you do not need a comma before "the notebook"
like I said before: get a grammar lesson yourself

.dudelike. forget, grammer:who uses  dat; stuff. anymore
