Author Topic: Question about portforwarding.  (Read 1234 times)

Most modems only have 1 Ethernet output, don't be a bitch about it and do it manually.
they all have only 1.
to share a ip address, software would be required (a router)
or a combined modem/router that all dsl and some cable ISP just give you.

for the record, i cannot stand the combined units. i always have requested JUST the cable modem. as nothing beats having your own real router.
i hate ISP software.

or of course, the option to go single hardwired like OP is trying.

couldnt a person using a combined box just adjust his modem/router into a simple modem? basically the bridging settings without a bridge? lol

well the thing is, I have attempted multiple times to forward 25565

you knew how to designate the ports to a specific computer (the game host) right?

many people who dont understand port forwarding to well always mess up that part.
you dont simply open ports up on the network. they have to be designated per the xbox, or the ipad, or moms laptop, or the house desktop.

how does one designate it.

how does one designate it.
Most routers designate the port that you want to be hosted under an IPv4 Address. To find your computer's IPv4 address, search cmd.exe and open that program. Then a box should pop up, type in ipconfig and press enter. Keep reading the text until you see IPv4 Address. Look to the right of the dots of the IPv4 Address to see your computer's IPv4 address. Type this IPv4 Address into the IP box, the IP box should be near the box where you say to your router what ports you want to be allowed. I hope I have helped you. If this is too complicated for you, then hopefully someone else can simplify how to do this.

get to this window. the connection status

and click "details"

my laptop happens to be device number 101 on the network.

so when i port forward something. i have to enter the 101 in the ip box for the port im opening.

(only the 3 digit device number would be needed as the rest is filled out) though not always filled out, sometimes you gotta type the entire local address in, depending on the router you own.
