My parents were poor.
He never donated to us again, but it helped us in the long run.

Reminds me of when I overheard some kid in middle school going on and on about it, the starting sentence being "I'm an atheist... which means... (bla bla bullstuff spanning in length longer than a vegan explaining why they're vegan)".

There is no reason for OP to be really bashful towards the people explaining why phrases such as "he's in a better place" can at least be somewhat lifting of the spirits.  A close relative passes, no one is going to say something like "well we all die some day whatever".  No, they say things like "he's in a better place" and such.  People naturally want to feel better, if they took the situation with a pessimist approach everyone would be even more miserable about the death (not that a death isn't something to be sad about).

So that sucks yeah, nothing you can do about it. Changing your religion because it suits the situation better is just lying to yourself.
Which is dumb. It's the first reason religions came to be really, to soften the impact of unchangable events.
And to give the church colossal amounts of power.

and here we go. personally i am muslim but i am more open minded than most people, but what you are saying is pretty ignorant and is going to get you flamed in the long run. i am not saying your ideas are wrong, because no one can know what happens, but it isn't the best thing to do to call someone's belief's dumb. i'll admit, millions have died in the far past because of stuff like that, so just imagine what will happen online.

I'm not calling anyone's belief dumb, I'm calling switching beliefs because it's handier for you in the current situation dumb.
