Author Topic: This just in: I may get a PFL (when I'm 16)  (Read 1861 times)

yep
there's a small flight school relatively close to where I live (for that matter, there's actually a few)
and if you know me well, you know that I like planes a lot
my mom said that if I wait a couple of years (which is already required so I'm fine with that), she'll try to get me classes
flying is something I'm extremely interested in, even though it will take a lot of time and work
35 hours of ground school, 20 of instructed flight, 10 of solo, and 10 more of whichever
but it's worth it
flying a plane would be amazing, I'm not sure if there's anything I would want to do more
but I don't want a sport or recreational license, they're too restricted, and I don't need to bother with a commercial one because I probably wont have any interest in being a commercial pilot
and you have to be sixteen; that comes as kind of a surprise to me, that you can fly solo at the same age for driving solo
a pleasant surprise, though

I'm also interested in joining the USAF as a pilot
that will clearly take even more work, but to be in the military and a pilot at the same time would be perfect
plus, they'll help pay for college, which is nice

I honestly can't imagine being afraid of heights; being high in a tall building is so wonderful, and flight is really cool

Funny thing, I am terrified of heights.

Funny thing, I am terrified of heights.
this yet i love planes

I have a fear of commercial airlines, and not because of terrorism.

If you could get a plane, be sure to pick us all up

congrats. hopefully you get where you want.

kind of relevant:
whenever i play flight simulator X i do kamikaze on purpose.

Funny thing, I am terrified of heights.
why? is it irrational or is there an actual reason?

so, I assume you don't like to fly in them? or you do, because they give you a sense of security against whatever makes you afraid of heights?

what is the reason, then?

with a PFL I can't make you pay, but I can make you help pay for fuel/renting costs B)

thanks
I've never played FSX, I don't think
but every flight simulator I've used, I've been horrible because I can't find/remember any of the controls

what is the reason, then?
Germs!

But I'm not a germaphobe

Germs!
really?
if so, there should be a lot more for you to be scared of

I don't have a fear of heights, or even a fear of falling at a great height

it's hitting the ground after falling that I'm afraid of  :cookieMonster:

I have bad vision sooo...
I never get to be a pilot.
:c

it's hitting the ground after falling that I'm afraid of
I wouldn't be afraid of that
it would almost certainly be a quick death, so I wouldn't be able to care for long

I don't think that good vision is a requirement for pilot licenses
I know that having good/fixable vision is a military requirement, but I'm pretty sure you can get a S/R/P/CFL with vision problems
although, getting a CFL doesn't necessarily mean an airline would hire you as long as you have vision problems

I have to turn my head to the side some to see properly.

really what I'm trying to say here is that I'm afraid of dying

I have to turn my head to the side some to see properly.
oh
well, that's probably fixable
and insurance would more than likely pay to fix a problem like that
really what I'm trying to say here is that I'm afraid of dying
I would be too, in the face of it, but if I felt that I've lived long enough, I'd be okay with dying as long as it was quick
