i believe adobe has a flash trial that lasts a month, though you'd need to learn actionscript and such and abandon any idea that involves the right mouse button

But I don't KNOW ActionScript, that's the problem. I need something easy to use.

you could maybe LEARN actionscript
kongregate has a set of tutorials that teach you how to make a side-scrolling shmup

step 1: learn C++
step 2: use XNA framework to actually make the game
step 3: profit off of a game that's not stuff

1: That'll take forever
2: Kay.
3: I plan for it to be free.

Add a Necromancers that spawn every 10 rounds and can cast spells and summon weak, slow zombies.

well, to be a game developer you've gotta learn some coding language.
even gamemaker utilizes a language called GML.

water, earth, fire, air

if you want to be super complicated you could combine elements.
water (mud) earth. water (steam) air. water (smoke) fire. earth (ash) fire. earth (dust) air.  fire (spark) air

I made a combination thing for the 10 elements. 55ish combinations, including combinations with themselves.

sounds overcomplicated and will probably give you hell

Water and fire would make steam

Water and fire would make steam
It would make both. The fire would evaporate the water into steam, and the water would put out the fire, which creates smoke.

The smoke is made from burning things, not water putting fire out, that makes steam.

You'd have to light water on fire, which is almost impossible.

Blow on a candle, it makes smoke.
