Most likely going to be called Elemage, but ideas are appreciated.

It's going to have a top-down view, and you control the 10 elements - Fire, Thunder, Nature, Ice, Water, Psychic, Earth, Darkness, Air, and Light. Each element has a separate energy bar. Using the scroll wheel or the number keys, you can select an element at any time. Unselected elements slowly loose energy, but won't run out past 10%. The selected element regenerates at twice the rate of the degrading of the other elements. Left click does a basic melee attack which costs no energy and is neutral as far as elements go. Right click uses the current element; fire shoots a fireball out to lightly damage enemies. When upgrades, lights enemies on fire, and as upgraded more, is hotter and lasts longer. Doesn't use much energy and doesn't take long to reload. Thunder uses virtually all the thunder energy for its attack, which is an extremely powerful and long bolt that reaches across the map and, once upgraded, through walls and has a chance of paralyzing enemies.  More upgrades allow it to pass through more walls and higher paralyzing chance. Of course, it will take forever to recharge and use again. Nature allows you to draw vines anywhere on screen that don't damage enemies unless upgraded, in which case it do slight damage and if you're lucky poison them, which works the same as when an enemy burns. Ice works as a kind of icethrower, with a chance of freezing enemies which has a higher chance and duration as you upgrade it more. Water works as an SMG that can burn through energy fast. The more upgraded, the less energy it uses up. Psychic can create points of gravity to manipulate enemies and confuse them. Upgrading has it be more powerful, even causing enemies that collide to take damage. Higher levels can confuse enemies and make them attack each other. Of course, it takes up an unbelievable amount of energy. Darkness creates a cloud which enemies can't see you in, but it makes it harder for you to see them. Air more or less has the opposite effect of Psychic - it repels enemies away from the mouse instead of attracting. Instead of confusing enemies, it can stun them. Light will damage all enemies on screen slightly, and the closer the more powerful. Takes up a lot of energy, has a large reload time (even if you have the energy, you can't have a constant flash) and doesn't do much damage. As upgraded, it does more damage, and closer enemies can be stunned. Rock simply turns you to stone, making you invincible. It uses up energy quickly, and if you move, it lets you but you burn u energy and a ridiculously high speed.

Enemies drop coins and experience. At the end of every wave, you can use coins to upgrade your elements and experience to upgrade your skills. Vitality will upgrade your maximum health. Energy upgrades the maximum energy for all weapons slightly. Focus speeds up the gradual restoration of the selected element's energy. Regeneration speeds up the restoration of health. Speed is fairly obvious, it speeds up your character.  Dexterity increases firing speed and reduces reload time of all elements. Agility gives you a chance of dodging attacks. Power increase damage you deal, while defense decrease damage dealt to you. Subliminal makes unselected elements fade slower, and when upgraded enough, actually makes them regenerate even when unselected, but never faster than the selected one, and when that happens you can't upgrade subliminal until you upgrade focus again.

Enemies include zombie knights, zombie boxers, zombie archers, elemental zombies (they have the same powers you do, except with only one element), huge zombies, the zombie mage (all 10 elemental zombies combined), and ghost zombies.

I'm posting this mainly to ask for ideas and tips, sorry if this is a big wall of text. Engines, sprites, sounds, music, ect. are very very very much appreciated, especially engines and sprites.

The name sounds pretty neat

"ice, water"
what is this pokemon? just get basics you don't need the same element over and over again just in different states of matter.

what about steam?

...good point, but I don't thing "cold" sounds as cool as "ice" and I am well aware of this. Also, ice and water have completely different purposes, and I was trying to come up with one for every color (I refrained from orange because it looks like both fire and thunder.) Also I was thinking of the ability to buy Combo Tokens, which let you combine 2 elements int a new attack. Some might make good weapons, like fire + darkness = bomb, fire + rock = lava, or thunder + air = thunderstorm, while some would be useless, like water + nature = water lily, and some would be a downright failure, like ice + fire.

you should only have 4 elements, Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and maybe some different spell categories like Necromancy, Holy, ect.

That could work better organizationally, but it would be harder to code and would also probably make the game more complicated then I'd like.

>engines are appreciated
what the hell are you coding this in anyway?

Game Maker, and I have to use actions cuz I dunno GML. Yeah and right now the character is a Link sprite with dark gray clothing, brown hair, and a black belt named Shale.

ahaha
ahaha
Game maker

:c

I have no coding ability...

If anyone has a better program then I'll here HEAR it, it's not too late for me to change it.

EDIT: derp wrong "here"

i have never seen a "game idea" posted on a forum actually go past the planning stage

that, and the fact you're using game maker doesn't bode well for your idea

if you do want to use a different engine you're probably going to need to learn some kind of coding language

Well, can you tell me what to use then please, if you're going to whine about it.
